The Berbera Local Government is the elected municipal authority responsible for the urban planning, public works, sanitation and civic life of Berbera city and the wider Sahil Region.

For more than a century the Municipality has been the steward of Berbera's identity — from its 19th-century role as a commercial entrepôt on the Gulf of Aden, to its rise today as Somaliland's principal deep-water port and a corridor city linking Ethiopia, the Horn and global trade.

The Council works hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Interior, the Port of Berbera, DP World, regional partners and citizens — translating the Berbera 2040 Vision into housing, roads, drainage, markets, parks and digital services for every district.

Our duty is to build a city worthy of its history, and ready for its future.

Hon. Abdishakur Mahamud Edin — Mayor of Berbera
